Senior AI Engineer - FDE (Forward Deployed Engineer) (GenAI)

Location: Tokyo, Japan; travel to customers may be required once every 4–8 weeks.

What you will do

• Develop cutting-edge GenAI solutions using techniques from Databricks AI research to solve customer problems.
• Own production rollouts of consumer-facing and internal GenAI applications.
• Advise customers as a trusted technical expert across different domains.
• Present technical work at conferences and contribute to internal and external thought leadership.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to influence priorities and shape the product roadmap.

Requirements

• Build GenAI applications using RAG, multi-agent systems, Text2SQL, fine-tuning, and tools such as Hugging Face, LangChain, and DSPy.
• Deploy, evaluate, and optimize production-grade GenAI applications.
• Bring extensive hands-on industry data science experience with pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch, and related tools.
• Build production-grade machine learning deployments on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Hold a graduate degree in a quantitative discipline or have equivalent practical experience.
• Native-level Japanese and professional working English proficiency are required.

Nice to have

• Experience with the Databricks Intelligence Platform and Apache Spark for large-scale distributed datasets.
