Senior Research Scientist (AI Foundations) (Machine Learning/Autonomous Driving): Developing machine learning solutions and global-scale data pipelines for foundation models used in autonomous driving with an accent on data mixtures, data-selection algorithms, generative modeling, and reinforcement learning. Location: Hybrid role based in London or Oxford, England
Salary: £123,000–£129,000 GBP per year

What you will do
- Partner with foundation model training teams to optimize data mixtures, training curricula, objectives, and model design choices.
- Design global-scale pipelines for dynamically updating and reusing data mixtures as datasets evolve.
- Develop and deploy data-selection algorithms for targeted fine-tuning and reinforcement learning datasets.
- Run large-scale empirical studies connecting pre-training data composition with downstream post-training performance.
- Collaborate with behavior, perception, and evaluation teams to measure the impact of foundation models on the Waymo Driver.
Requirements
- PhD in machine learning or a related AI/computer science field, or an MSc with a strong academic publication record.
- Strong statistical and machine learning knowledge.
- Proficiency in Python.
- 3+ years of experience with modern deep learning frameworks, including JAX, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
- Ability to work in a hybrid setup in London or Oxford, England.
Nice to have
- Experience deploying machine learning models to production.
- Deep learning experience with generative models, LLMs, VLMs, reinforcement learning, imitation learning, transformer models, autoencoders, or embeddings.
- Autonomous driving experience.
- C++ experience.
