TL;DR

Senior Safety Process Engineer (Robotics): Leading the development of safety architecture for autonomous mobile robotics (AMR) products with an accent on system safety, certification, and risk mitigation. Focus on designing safety-by-design principles, conducting hazard analyses, and ensuring compliance with international safety standards for NRTL certification.

Location: Must be based in the US; hybrid arrangement requiring onsite presence at the Global Technical Center in Warren, MI, at least one week per month.

What you will do

  • Lead the development and maintenance of product safety architecture for AMR systems, including safety concepts and requirements.
  • Integrate safety-by-design principles across hardware and software architectures and implementation decisions.
  • Execute core safety work products including hazard analyses, risk assessments, and performance level calculations.
  • Prepare documentation and evidence packages required to support third-party NRTL certification and compliance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve complex safety-related technical issues and gaps.
  • Mentor engineers and influence teams on functional safety and automation safety practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems, Electrical, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Significant professional experience in functional, machine, or product safety engineering for electromechanical systems.
  • Strong knowledge of safety standards: ISO 13849, IEC 61508, ISO 12100, ISO 3691-4, ANSI B56.5, or UL.
  • Experience translating safety objectives into actionable engineering requirements and technical decisions.
  • Must not require immigration sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice to have

  • Experience leading safety architecture for autonomous mobile robots, industrial vehicles, or warehouse automation.
  • Direct experience working with third-party certification bodies, auditors, or test labs.
  • Proficiency with safety engineering tools: FMEA, FMEDA, fault tree analysis, or reliability block diagrams.
  • Familiarity with LiDAR-based sensing, safety PLCs, and fail-safe actuators.
