Senior Director Of Machine Learning (AI)

Location: Hybrid - Must be based in the UK (London/Oxford) or Poland (Krakow). Requires 2 days per week in the office.

What you will do

• Build and lead a unified ML organization using a hub-and-spoke model to balance central standards with product-area agility.
• Own the technical strategy for personalization, including multi-objective ranking, session-based recommenders, and semantic retrieval.
• Lead data science and experimentation efforts, owning the platform for A/B testing and causal inference.
• Shape the generative AI roadmap, focusing on LLMs, RAG, and agentic experiences for trip planning.
• Grow and develop the team by defining career ladders and hiring top-tier Staff and Principal Scientists.
• Oversee production ML health, ensuring reliable deployment, monitoring, and governance in partnership with MLOps.

Requirements

• Significant experience leading managers and senior technical teams within a complex, scaled organization.
• Proven track record of shipping production ML at scale, specifically in personalization, recommendations, or search/ranking.
• Expertise in building or restructuring ML/data-science organizations and managing organizational change.
• Ability to operate as an executive peer, influencing VP-level partners across Product and Engineering.
• Deep technical grounding in modern ML, MLOps, and rigorous statistical experimentation.
• MS or PhD in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics) or equivalent applied experience.
