What you will do

• Own performance investigations across the product and data stack to identify root causes and implement production improvements.
• Design and evaluate data architecture changes to enhance scalability and responsiveness.
• Collaborate with Product, frontend, and backend engineers to optimize request batching, caching, and pagination.
• Develop benchmarks and measure query latency, throughput, and infrastructure consumption using ClickHouse Cloud.
• Evaluate the impact of upstream dataset changes and recommend technical approaches to balance functionality, cost, and performance.
• Improve performance instrumentation, monitoring, and regression detection across data-powered product experiences.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building and optimizing production data systems or data-intensive applications.
• Advanced SQL skills and strong proficiency with Python or another general-purpose programming language.
• Experience optimizing analytical workloads in column-oriented databases or data warehouses.
• Proficiency in using query plans, profiling, benchmarks, and production telemetry to diagnose performance problems.
• A hypothesis-driven approach to performance work: defining problems, establishing baselines, and quantifying results.
• Must be based in the United States.

Nice to have

• Experience with ClickHouse.
• Experience contributing to data-heavy search, filtering, analytics, or reporting products.
• Knowledge of healthcare-specific data types such as claims, contract rates, or medical billing.
