Principal Data & AI Engineer (AI)

Location: San Jose, California, United States

Salary: $249,000–$348,500 annual total cash range, with potential pay up to $398,500 based on sustained performance.

What you will do

• Own the AI-powered reporting and insights strategy from data ingestion through executive delivery.
• Lead the reporting data architecture, pipelines, infrastructure, and Data Integrations and Enablement Platform.
• Connect business intelligence, metrics, dashboards, and AI-assisted reporting into scalable self-service insight products.
• Design LLM-powered workflows using prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, and agentic pipelines.
• Evaluate and integrate enterprise AI platforms such as Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, and Anthropic.
• Establish governance for executive-facing AI outputs and provide technical leadership and coaching across the reporting ecosystem.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent professional experience.
• 10 years of experience with a master’s degree, 12 years with a bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience in data, analytics, business intelligence, reporting, or related technical roles.
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL.
• At least 3 years of hands-on experience building or deploying AI/ML or LLM-based applications, including prompt engineering, RAG architectures, or agentic workflows.
• At least 2 years of experience with an enterprise AI platform such as Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, or Google Vertex AI.
• Role location: San Jose, California, United States.

Nice to have

• Experience leading cross-functional data or analytics programs at Principal level scope.
• Experience operating agentic AI systems, conversational BI, NL-to-SQL, and real-time or event-driven data solutions.
• Knowledge of AI governance, evaluation frameworks, confidence scoring, explainability, auditability, and risk management.
• Experience with Spark, Flink, Iceberg, Snowflake, Databricks, or Delta Lake.
• Strong executive communication skills and the ability to translate technical concepts into business outcomes.
