Backend Engineer

TL;DR

Backend Engineer (Backend): Design, build, and operate services and frameworks that power Asana’s product with an accent on complex systems analysis, API development, and maintaining high code quality. Location: Reykjavik office (office-centric hybrid schedule)

Salary: 1 000 000–1 200 000 ISK/month (estimated monthly base salary range)

What you will do

• Design, build, and iterate on backend frameworks that influence core aspects of the Asana product.
• Partner with other engineering teams to identify opportunities that help teams develop faster.
• Analyze complex systems to uncover issues, root causes, and areas for improvement.
• Develop new APIs that balance usability with support for a feature-rich web application.
• Champion code quality and engineering best practices through reusable frameworks and patterns.
• Collaborate with engineers to build new functionality using intuitive building blocks.

Requirements

• 3+ years of backend (BE) experience shipping production code in large, well-maintained codebases.
• Ability to learn quickly and transition between different areas of a complex codebase.
• Strong autonomous judgment to balance speed with quality and long-term maintainability.
• Experience establishing and spreading high-quality software engineering patterns.
• Familiarity with the React/GraphQL ecosystem; TypeScript experience is preferred.
• Hybrid schedule based in Reykjavik office with standard in-office days on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.
