TL;DR
Laboratory Coordinator (Life and Physical Sciences): Coordinating and operating ESA/ESTEC laboratory facilities for microgravity research, life support, planetary protection, and exploration activities with an accent on test execution, equipment management, safety, and quality assurance. Focus on planning complex testing campaigns, supporting specialised cleanroom and sterilisation activities, managing non-conformances, and maintaining mission-critical laboratory readiness.
Location: ESA/ESTEC in Noordwijk, Netherlands. Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the EU.

What you will do
- Lead the day-to-day operation and continuous development of the Life, Physical Sciences Instrumentation and Life Support Laboratory.
- Coordinate laboratory requests from feasibility assessment through planning, testing, reporting, and archiving.
- Prepare, configure, operate, maintain, calibrate, and inspect laboratory facilities and equipment.
- Provide hands-on technical support for sample preparation, measurements, data collection, cleaning, sterilisation, and troubleshooting.
- Coordinate laboratory users, personnel competence, technical meetings, management boards, and test readiness and post-test reviews.
- Support specialised activities including cleanroom operations, gravity simulation, planetary protection, microbial sampling, payload integration, and off-site campaigns.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in engineering.
- At least 4 years of relevant professional experience in testing laboratories and relevant routine life or physical sciences tests.
- Experience with laboratory planning, calibration, maintenance, cleanliness management, testing campaigns, test plans, and reporting of results.
- Knowledge of laboratory health and safety, non-conformance management, ISO 9001, and quality assurance in testing or engineering laboratories.
- Solid experience in people management and familiarity with space programmes and space instrument testing.
- Fluency in written and spoken English and eligibility to live and work in the EU are required.
