What you will do

• Own end-to-end database reliability and scalability for production systems supporting millions of customers.
• Define and evolve database engineering standards for schema design, query optimization, and capacity planning.
• Lead complex database migrations, including monolith decompositions and cloud transitions, with minimal customer impact.
• Drive automation of operational workflows (provisioning, failover, patching) to reduce toil and increase reliability.
• Serve as a primary escalation point for critical P0/P1 database incidents and lead root cause analysis.
• Mentor the database engineering community and influence technical strategy and roadmaps.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software or infrastructure engineering experience.
• 5+ years in a dedicated database engineering or DBA role at scale.
• Deep expertise in Aurora PostgreSQL, MySQL, Google Cloud Spanner, or similar distributed systems.
• Experience operating high-availability database systems in AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Strong command of query optimization, indexing strategies, and performance tuning at production scale.
• Proficiency in Python or Bash for automation and tooling.

Nice to have

• Experience with CockroachDB, Vitess, or NewSQL architectures.
• Familiarity with Terraform or Pulumi for infrastructure-as-code.
• Background in SRE or platform engineering with a focus on SLOs and error budgets.
• Experience in regulated environments such as SOC 2, PCI-DSS, or GDPR.
