Android Software Engineer (Kotlin)

Location: Japan, Tokyo; hybrid, with at least 3 days per week in the Japan office

What you will do

• Build and ship native Android features using Kotlin.
• Create clear mobile flows for insurance, payments, claims, renewals, and financial services.
• Collaborate with product and design to simplify complex user journeys.
• Integrate backend APIs and maintain stable, secure, and reliable mobile flows.
• Improve app performance, crash rates, loading states, responsiveness, and memory usage.
• Use analytics, user behavior, and production issues to improve the product, including AI-assisted experiences where they provide genuine user value.

Requirements

• 3+ years of Android development experience with Kotlin and experience shipping production applications.
• Strong Android fundamentals and knowledge of Jetpack, Coroutines, Flow, and modern Android architecture.
• Experience integrating REST APIs and debugging production issues.
• Strong understanding of mobile UX, usability, edge cases, and user flows.
• Fast execution, high ownership, and strong attention to product quality.
• Strong English communication is required; the role is based in Japan and requires office attendance at least 3 days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with Jetpack Compose, SQL or NoSQL, and TensorFlow Lite for on-device inference.
• App links, GitHub, screenshots, or examples of shipped work.
