TL;DR
Senior AI Engineer (Legal AI Assistant, LLM/RAG): Building end-to-end AI-powered features for a legal workspace, including chat experiences, LLM integrations, RAG pipelines, and agent orchestration systems with an accent on secure, reliable, and scalable product engineering. Focus on designing multi-step legal workflows, benchmarking AI quality, and optimizing document parsing and retrieval for lawyers across Europe.
Location: NLD - Alphen Aan Den Rijn; hybrid work with the team at the Merantix AI Campus in Berlin. Remote work is available up to 3 days per week, with up to 20 days of work from anywhere within the EU during a twelve-month period.

What you will do
- Design, implement, and maintain end-to-end AI-powered product features using LLM APIs.
- Develop chat-based user experiences and behind-the-scenes AI integrations for core product functionality.
- Build and optimize RAG systems, including document parsing, semantic chunking, and retrieval pipelines.
- Build scalable backend systems with FastAPI, Python, and modern tooling.
- Design agent orchestration systems for complex, multi-step legal workflows.
- Build evaluation and benchmarking infrastructure with continuous monitoring and alerting for AI feature quality.
Requirements
- Deep experience building products that integrate LLMs through APIs.
- Strong proficiency with Python, FastAPI, and common data science packages.
- Strong understanding of software engineering, security, reliability, and data privacy best practices.
- Experience with AI developer tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or Copilot.
- Excellent English communication skills required; German fluency is a plus.
- Ability to work pragmatically with autonomy, collaborate across Product, Legal Engineering, and Design, and balance speed with long-term scalability.

- Experience with TypeScript and front-end development.
- German fluency.
