TL;DR
Senior Mechanical Harness Engineer (Automotive): Designing and validating electrical wire harnesses and busbars for autonomous commercial trucks with an accent on wire routing, connector selection, and EMI principles. Focus on translating electrical schematics into precise 3D models and ensuring high correlation between virtual designs and physical builds.

Salary: $150,000 – $185,000 USD

What you will do

  • Design automotive wire harnesses and busbars using SolidWorks, managing routing paths, lengths, and strain relief.
  • Create detailed drawings and BOMs, releasing design documents through Arena PLM.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers to incorporate EMI, grounding, and functionality trade-offs.
  • Develop content for work instructions using CAD graphics.
  • Participate in first article builds at company locations and contract manufacturers across the USA.
  • Validate designs through builds and verification testing to ensure high correlation between 3D models and physical dimensions.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience developing automotive harness systems from concept to production.
  • Proficiency in 3D mechanical CAD (SolidWorks preferred, CATIA, or NX).
  • Experience with PDM and PLM software (Arena or ePDM preferred).
  • Familiarity with harnessing standards such as AS50881, MIL-E-7016, EWIS, or MIL-STD-704.
  • Ability to translate electrical schematics into precise cable routing and endpoint mapping.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Capital Harness Designer or similar electrical CAD software.
  • Experience designing form-boards and end-of-line test devices.
