Staff Machine Learning Engineer (AI)

Salary: $212k – $301k (USD) or CA$178k – CA$246k (CAD) + Equity

What you will do

• Define the technical strategy for the ML roadmap, translating research goals into production-ready systems.
• Solve complex modeling challenges involving long-context reasoning and multi-document understanding.
• Apply advanced ML techniques including fine-tuning, reinforcement learning, and retrieval.
• Establish rigorous evaluation standards to reduce hallucinations and improve factual consistency.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the ML team, raising the bar for engineering rigor.
• Act as the bridge between research and production to ensure new techniques are shippable.

Requirements

• 7+ years of hands-on ML engineering experience with multiple production models.
• Deep expertise in ML and NLP, specifically with LLMs.
• High proficiency in Python and modern ML/NLP frameworks.
• Ability to set technical strategy and drive execution in ambiguous environments.
• Proven track record of mentoring engineers.
• Legal authorization to work in the US or Canada.

Nice to have

• PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
• Experience with document understanding and structured extraction from unstructured text.
• Expertise in LLM fine-tuning (LoRA, QLoRA, RLHF/RLVR) or advanced prompt engineering.
• Experience working in a high-growth startup environment.
