What you will do

  • Research the design of safe battery energy storage systems for naval vessels to avoid thermal runaway.
  • Model and analyze the thermal behavior of batteries, considering load cycles and potential mechanical damage from missile impacts.
  • Develop strategies to minimize thermal runaway risks via battery chemistry, containment, and cooling systems.
  • Conduct experimental work and design iterations to minimize damage in the event of a thermal runaway incident.
  • Collaborate with academic and industrial partners, including the Netherlands Defense Academy.

Requirements

  • MSc degree in electrical power engineering, mechanical engineering, or chemical engineering.
  • Expertise or strong interest in the modeling and design of battery systems.
  • Ability to relocate to the Netherlands.
