What you will do
- Research the design of safe battery energy storage systems for naval vessels to avoid thermal runaway.
- Model and analyze the thermal behavior of batteries, considering load cycles and potential mechanical damage from missile impacts.
- Develop strategies to minimize thermal runaway risks via battery chemistry, containment, and cooling systems.
- Conduct experimental work and design iterations to minimize damage in the event of a thermal runaway incident.
- Collaborate with academic and industrial partners, including the Netherlands Defense Academy.
Requirements
- MSc degree in electrical power engineering, mechanical engineering, or chemical engineering.
- Expertise or strong interest in the modeling and design of battery systems.
- Ability to relocate to the Netherlands.
- Strong communication skills in English.
- Proactive and independent approach to research.
