Founding Field Engineer (AI)

Location: Must be based in Tokyo, Japan (Hybrid)

What you will do

• Act as the engineering-side technical counterpart for customers in Japan.
• Partner with Account Executives and Solutions Architects on technical discovery, POCs, and production adoption.
• Work directly with customer engineering and data teams to understand architecture and operational challenges.
• Guide customers through deployment planning, architecture reviews, and go-live preparation.
• Diagnose production issues, analyze performance concerns, and coordinate engineering escalations.
• Translate customer feedback and technical blockers into actionable input for internal Engineering and Product teams.

Requirements

• Native or fluent Japanese communication skills.
• Business-level English proficiency.
• Strong technical background in database systems, distributed systems, or data infrastructure.
• Experience with production systems, including reliability, scalability, and performance tuning.
• Ability to explain complex technical concepts to both customer engineering teams and internal stakeholders.
• Experience with Kubernetes, storage systems, or site reliability engineering.

Nice to have

• Experience with vector search, RAG, or machine learning systems.
• Prior experience in field engineering, technical account management, or customer success engineering.
• Familiarity with database internals, query engines, or indexing.
• Experience working at a data infrastructure or developer tools company.
