Staff GNC Engineer (Aerospace)

What you will do

• Lead teams designing and implementing flight control algorithms for electric VTOL aircraft.
• Connect GNC requirements with broader system requirements and collaborate with Systems Engineering and Systems Safety.
• Build simulations, verification methods, and test cases to validate complex systems and software.
• Run trade studies and support aircraft design and system architecture decisions.
• Work with Flight Test to design safe evaluations of vehicle capabilities and analyze full-scale and subscale flight data.
• Improve vehicle and environment simulation models and identify deficiencies in the Flight Control System.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of vehicle dynamics, optimization, and classical and modern control theory.
• BS in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related field with at least 10 years of relevant experience; alternatively, MS with at least 8 years or PhD with at least 6 years of relevant experience.
• Proficiency in MATLAB and Simulink.
• Work location: München, Bavaria, Germany.

Nice to have

• Experience verifying GNC systems in simulation and on hardware, including envelope protection and modeling of physics, sensors, and actuators.
• Experience with system identification for aircraft or rotorcraft, fault detection and isolation, and trajectory generation or optimization algorithms.
• Experience flight testing piloted or autonomous aircraft or rotorcraft.
• Piloting experience with aircraft or rotorcraft.
