What you will do
- Develop and validate a particle-based simulation model to capture steel scrap flow and behavior.
- Integrate industrial data to simulate realistic handling, transport, and furnace infeed processes.
- Analyze the influence of scrap characteristics and loading strategies on process performance.
- Design and optimize discharge sequences to improve efficiency and reduce energy consumption.
- Translate research findings into practical recommendations for industrial EAF operations.
- Collaborate with consortium partners and academic staff within the Machines & Materials Interactions section.
Requirements
- MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field.
- Demonstrable experience with Discrete Element Method or other particle-based methods.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English.
- Demonstrable affinity with industry-related research and a collaborative mindset.
- Willingness to relocate to the Netherlands if not already based there.
Nice to have
- Experience with experimental testing and/or scrap characterization.
