TL;DR

Director of Engineering (AI): Leading the day-to-day strategy and execution of the engineering organization with an accent on organizational maturity and AI transformation. Focus on building operating models, developing engineering leadership, and establishing engineering as a strategic business partner.

Location: Hybrid working from the HQ in Leicestershire or the London (Holborn) office. Fully remote working is not available.

What you will do

  • Lead the engineering organization's day-to-day performance, ensuring priorities are tracked and delivered.
  • Build the operating model, rituals, and accountability structures to increase delivery consistency and discipline.
  • Drive AI adoption and the cultural behavior change required for AI-first ways of working.
  • Develop Engineering Managers and set clear, observable leadership standards.
  • Ensure engineers have active development plans and foster a culture of learning and craft.
  • Manage the engineering budget and evaluate the commercial ROI of technical approaches.

Requirements

  • Proven track record of leading engineering organizations through a maturity curve with measurable impact.
  • Experience driving AI transformation at scale and implementing culture change.
  • Ability to systematically fix and optimize partially-built engineering functions.
  • Commercial fluency at a senior level, including cost control and stakeholder management.
  • Strong people leadership experience in building inclusive, high-trust environments.
  • Must be based in or able to commute to Leicestershire or London for hybrid work.
