Software Engineer, Perception Scaling Evaluation (AI)

Location: Onsite in Mountain View, California, or San Francisco, California; the role is also described as hybrid.

Salary: $175,000–$215,000 USD base salary per year, plus eligibility for an annual bonus, equity incentive plan, and company benefits.

Waymo develops autonomous driving technology and the Waymo Driver, an autonomous driving system used for ride-hailing and other vehicle platforms.

What you will do

• Develop the perception stack and help scale it to new driving environments, vehicle platforms, and sensors.
• Architect high-scale automation and evaluation frameworks for the safety, performance, and reliability of the Waymo Driver.
• Build simulation tools for sensor emulation and testing against impairments, faults, and edge cases.
• Develop sensor data alignment and calibration systems for the Waymo Driver and log-processing backend.
• Collaborate with hardware and software teams to define sensor requirements and influence the perception technology roadmap.
• Support sensing-system and software-release sign-offs and present results at milestone reviews.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, or a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2+ years of experience applying industrial AI, including creating, maintaining, and evaluating ML products.
• Experience developing and conducting evaluations for large ML software systems.
• Strong C++ programming skills and experience writing robust, efficient code.
• Ability to work onsite or in the hybrid arrangement associated with Mountain View or San Francisco, California.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, or a similar technical field.
• Experience with L4 autonomous vehicles or L2/L3 ADAS systems.
• Strong software architecture skills.
