TL;DR

Advanced Propulsion Thermal and Lubrication Engineer (Automotive): Developing propulsion technology concepts into engineered solutions for electric and combustion systems with an accent on thermal management, lubrication, and battery safety. Focus on designing and validating high-performance propulsion components through physics-based analysis, cross-functional collaboration, and rigorous testing to ensure production viability.

Location: Must be based in or able to relocate to Warren, Michigan (Hybrid: 3 days/week in office).

What you will do

  • Develop and execute advanced technology work (ATW) projects for propulsion thermal concepts.
  • Define project scope, key metrics, and success criteria for new technology development.
  • Deliver comprehensive documentation covering thermal performance, cost, mass, and manufacturing integration.
  • Coordinate physical testing and manufacturing trials to assess concept risks and validate analytical models.
  • Collaborate with VDDV teams to utilize 1D and 3D CFD tools for performance assessment.
  • Protect intellectual property by documenting new ideas for patent submissions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a relevant field.
  • Must be based in or able to relocate to Warren, Michigan.
  • 2+ years of experience in product engineering or a relevant field.
  • Strong understanding of first-principles in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics.
  • Experience working on complex technical projects with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to distill ambiguous customer requests into tangible deliverables.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in engineering or related field.
  • Production launch experience and design responsibility.
  • Experience with 1D (GT Power) or 3D CFD (STAR-CCM+) thermal analysis tools.
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as Unigraphics NX.
  • Experience developing physics-based analytical models using Excel or MATLAB.
