TL;DR

Staff Software Engineer (Unreal Engine): Driving the technical direction of the Unreal Ecosystem team to build shared libraries, plugins, and tooling for multiple game teams with an accent on platform-wide consistency and runtime performance. Focus on leading cross-team technical challenges, designing scalable infrastructure, and mentoring engineers to empower developers across Riot.

Location: Must be based in Australia (Relocation and visa sponsorship provided)

What you will do

  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of shared libraries, plugins, and tools used by multiple game teams.
  • Drive technical roadmapping for platform capabilities, balancing immediate needs with long-term architectural vision.
  • Champion technical designs and build consensus across diverse stakeholders and game teams.
  • Lead technical planning, breaking down complex multi-month efforts and sequencing delivery.
  • Uphold engineering excellence through code reviews, testing strategies, and continuous process improvement.
  • Mentor engineers in both technical and soft skills to level up developers across disciplines.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in professional software development.
  • 4+ years of professional experience and proficiency with C++.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, concurrency).
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical work that impacts multiple teams and driving technical direction.
  • Experience working with a modern game engine (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity).
  • Must be based in Australia or be eligible for relocation to Australia.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Unreal Engine C++ plugin development, editor tooling, or build systems.
  • Experience building developer tools, CI/CD pipelines, or internal platform infrastructure.
  • Background supporting multiple product teams as a platform or tools engineer.
  • Familiarity with game development workflows and common domain pain points.
