TL;DR
Ground Systems / Testing Infrastructure Intern (Python/Linux): Assist in developing and maintaining Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), Processor-in-the-Loop (PIL), and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test infrastructure with an accent on test orchestration, telemetry/command scripting, and integration with mission control software. Focus on building realistic “Test-As-You-Fly” environments and improving automation and tooling performance for spacecraft verification and operations.
Location: Tokyo, Japan (ispace HQ, Nihonbashi Honcho) — on-site at least 3 days/week; flexible WFH up to 2 days/week (not full remote)

What you will do
- Develop, maintain, and configure SIL/PIL/HIL test environments to support testing campaigns.
- Implement and expand Python tools for test setup, execution, and reporting.
- Write and test scripts for telemetry generation and command injection for closed-loop testing.
- Integrate simulation platforms with mission control software for real-time telemetry processing and commanding.
- Support simulator development by connecting flight software with simulation models and hardware test benches.
- Improve automation and tooling by managing/version-controlling simulation assets, test scenarios, and binaries.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled (3rd year or higher) or recently graduated (1–2 years after graduation) from a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficient in Python for scripting and building testing frameworks; working knowledge of C or C++ is preferred.
- Solid software development fundamentals: version control, debugging, and basic CI/CD concepts.
- Familiarity with Linux and command-line interfaces (CLI).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
