Senior Machine Learning Engineer (AI)

Location: US-Remote Eligible. Must reside in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity.

Salary: $196,000 – $227,000 USD

What you will do

• Champion the development of novel ML systems and product integrations to solve real-world customer service challenges.
• Design and build efficient AI solutions for CS products in collaboration with product, design, and engineering teams.
• Develop and enhance AI models, ML services, and agentic architectures including voice and chat assistants.
• Implement SOTA techniques such as SFT, reinforcement learning, RAG, and LLM evaluation frameworks.
• Shape AI initiatives from conceptual stages through to production deployment.

Requirements

• PhD or Master's degree with 6+ years of experience in Computer Science, ML, or AI.
• Hands-on expertise in LLM pretraining, fine-tuning (SFT, RLHF, GRPO), and prompt engineering.
• Experience building Agentic AI systems including multi-agent orchestration, tool-use, and autonomous reasoning.
• Proven track record of shipping production-grade ML/AI systems at scale with deep MLOps knowledge.
• Must have legal work authorization in the United States and reside in a state with a registered Airbnb entity.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
