Principal Data Engineer (Economy)

Location: United States; office-based roles are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday.

What you will do

• Lead data engineering standards for batch and streaming feature pipelines, table design, observability, and documentation across Economy ML.
• Architect, build, and deploy reliable real-time and batch data systems for search, personalization, and content recommendations.
• Design event taxonomies, logging interfaces, and real-time feature-serving systems across Marketplace, Developer Monetization, and Payments.
• Partner with Product, Data Science, and ML Engineering to prioritize data initiatives, support business goals, and reduce technical debt.
• Mentor data engineering and ML engineers on schema design, client logging, experimentation data, and feature pipelines.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience as a product-focused data systems engineer.
• Experience designing efficient logging schemas and optimizing data processing pipelines.
• Experience with real-time stream processing and batch processing using technologies such as Flink, Spark, Kafka, or Druid.
• Familiarity with feature stores and machine learning infrastructure.
• Technical leadership experience, strong analytical skills, and the ability to solve complex, ambiguous problems.
