What you will do

• Lead a data science team specializing in evaluating road rule compliance for the Waymo Driver.
• Define and uphold a high bar for measurement rigor to inform deployment and scaling decisions.
• Develop and adapt evaluation frameworks to accommodate road rules across multiple countries.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and systems engineering leads to align on deployment milestones.
• Measure driver performance in new territories and hardware platforms to determine market readiness.
• Act as a technical lead and people manager, scoping technical priorities and innovating on statistical methods.

Requirements

• Degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, or Physics.
• PhD in a quantitative field with 8+ years of industry experience, or 12+ years of industry experience solving data science problems.
• Experience as both a technical lead and a people manager.
• Expertise in advanced statistical methods in applied settings and familiarity with ML systems.
• Proficiency in data analysis libraries and packages in Python, R, and/or SQL.
• Experience working in highly cross-functional teams and promoting a data-driven culture.

Nice to have

• PhD in a quantitative field.
• Experience in Autonomous Driving or Ride Hailing domains.
• Experience with large-scale evaluation frameworks for software development.
• Knowledge in Advanced Machine Learning, Traffic Modeling, Safety Evaluation, or Prediction.
