Principal Data Engineer (Databricks)

Location: Remote, UK; fully remote

What you will do

• Act as the primary technical authority and strategic partner for client business owners.
• Design complex, large-scale data architectures and multi-year technology roadmaps.
• Oversee team-of-teams delivery, capacity planning, team velocity, and the quality of resilient data pipelines.
• Lead critical platform incident triage, resolution, root-cause prevention, and client communication.
• Implement data governance, security, risk mitigation, and compliance controls.
• Drive platform efficiency, engineering budgets, strategic hiring, knowledge sharing, and delivery standards.

Requirements

• Proven experience in a principal engineering role.
• Extensive experience with Azure or AWS cloud data platforms, particularly Databricks.
• Strong skills in Pythonic data processing with PySpark and SparkSQL.
• Knowledge of relational and non-relational data modelling, SQL, data integration, and ETL tools.
• Excellent knowledge of big data technologies, data governance, and data security best practices.
• Strong analytical, communication, consultative, and stakeholder management skills.
