Software Development Engineer (Open-Source, AWS Lambda)

Location: Dublin, Ireland; onsite role with the AWS Lambda team

What you will do

• Develop and maintain AWS Lambda runtimes and supporting libraries across multiple programming languages.
• Own runtime implementation, documentation, security updates, and integration with the Lambda platform and serverless ecosystem.
• Engage with upstream open-source communities and align runtimes with evolving language capabilities.
• Design, debug, profile, and improve large-scale systems for reliability, efficiency, and scalability.
• Balance security patching urgency with the risk of customer disruption.
• Collaborate with diverse engineering peers through mentorship, training, and shared technical work.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification.
• Professional software development experience, including recent development experience or non-internship experience.
• Experience designing or architecting systems, applying design patterns, and addressing reliability and scaling challenges.
• Strong analytical, communication, troubleshooting, debugging, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Meaningful contributions to established open-source projects.
• Strong programming skills in at least two of Java, Python, Node.js, Go, and Rust.
