Location: Must be based in or able to work from the office in Minato City, Tokyo, Japan (Hybrid)

What you will do

• Manage the full lifecycle of product-critical Elasticsearch clusters, including provisioning, sizing, and shard strategy.
• Lead incident response, root-cause analysis, and performance improvements for search APIs and aggregation services.
• Optimize search infrastructure performance across cluster, JVM, and query layers.
• Collaborate on high-impact Kubernetes and Terraform changes as a senior reviewer.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to long-term infrastructure roadmaps.

Requirements

• Senior-level experience operating distributed systems in production at scale.
• Production ownership of Elasticsearch or comparable Lucene-based search engines.
• Strong fundamentals in system design, consistency, replication, and capacity planning.
• Proficiency in Go and/or Java.
• English: B2 level required (Japanese not required).

Nice to have

• Deep knowledge of Lucene internals or JVM performance engineering.
• Experience with vector search technologies.
• Production experience with Kubernetes (GKE, EKS, or AKS).
• Experience with Terraform at scale and CI/CD platforms.
