TL;DR

Software Engineer (Photonics): Developing and evolving the Cohesion Framework to enable extensibility and integration across optical and electronic test instruments with an accent on reusable, high-performance software components. Focus on building reliable systems, working across software architecture layers, and implementing modular plugin architectures.

Location: Must be based in Rosedale, Auckland, NZ. Relocation is not provided.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and maintain the Cohesion Framework for extensibility and scalability across products.
• Develop reusable, high-performance software components and maintainable systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support seamless product integration.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
• Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to technical decision-making.
• Support debugging, performance optimization, and issue resolution.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics, or a related field.
• Minimum 1+ year of relevant professional software engineering experience.
• Strong programming skills in at least one language (e.g., Python, C#, C++, C).
• Good understanding of OOD, software architecture, data structures, and algorithms.
• Experience with version control (Git) and troubleshooting complex systems.
• Must be local to the position location in Rosedale, Auckland.

Nice to have

• Experience with frameworks, SDKs, or platform-level development.
• Familiarity with plugin architectures, modular systems, or shared codebases.
• Exposure to performance optimization and memory management in C++.
• Knowledge of web technologies, REST APIs, or web server environments (e.g., Apache).
• Familiarity with SCPI or instrument control/automation protocols.
• Experience with gRPC, distributed systems, or CI/CD pipelines.
