What you will do

• Design and implement end-to-end card platform features including tokenization and transaction enrichment.
• Build and maintain integrations with card issuers and payment processors.
• Architect scalable, secure microservices while ensuring PCI compliance.
• Own features from inception to completion, breaking down complex domains into deliverable tasks.
• Drive cross-team technical initiatives and contribute to shared libraries and infrastructure.
• Mentor teammates through code reviews and help set high engineering quality standards.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience, preferably in FinTech or payments.
• Expertise in Java and Spring Boot.
• Strong understanding of microservices architecture and API development.
• Experience with card payments, issuing, or transaction processing.
• Must be located in South Africa, Bulgaria, Poland, or Spain.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Open to participating in an out-of-hours on-call rota.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with crypto/fiat payment rails.
• Experience with PCI-sensitive cardholder data and PCI DSS requirements.
• Enthusiasm for AI-assisted development tooling (e.g., Claude Code).
