TL;DR

Refineries Analyst (Oil & Chemicals): Maintaining and optimizing bottom-up refinery models to ensure data integrity and quality control with an accent on Linear Programming (LP) and physical market realities. Focus on synthesizing proprietary data flows, automating data pipelines with Python and PostgreSQL, and bridging the gap between market reality and technical architecture.

Location: Hybrid in Houston, Athens, Dubai, or London

What you will do

  • Take ownership of data integrity and quality control for bottom-up refinery models and regional balances.
  • Utilize internal Linear Programming (LP) models for tuning and optimization of refinery circuits.
  • Backtest and validate models using external data sources such as EIA, JODI, IRR, and ANP.
  • Automate data flows and improve model accuracy using Python and PostgreSQL.
  • Collaborate with Product Engineering, Data, and Sales teams to support refineries product development.
  • Respond to internal and external data requests and client queries.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience as a Refinery Economist, Refining Analyst, or LP Modeler.
  • Deep understanding of physical refinery unit operations (Distillation, Reforming, FCC, Blending) and refinery economics.
  • Practical experience with industry-standard LP software (Aspen PIMS, AVEVA Unified/Spiral, or Haverly GRTMPS).
  • Proficiency in Python and PostgreSQL.
  • Experience sourcing and leveraging external data (EIA/JODI/IRR) for modeling.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or quantitative field.

Nice to have

  • Experience with refinery optimization and circuit-wide views.
  • Skills in data visualization.
  • Past experience contributing to SaaS products or data improvement initiatives.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools (Claude, Cursor, etc.) for data analysis and workflow optimization.
