What you will do

• Develop LLM/NLU systems to process and extract meaningful information from clinical notes and medical documents.
• Own and evolve the LLM evaluation harness, regression gates, and observability to ensure system reliability.
• Extract structured data from visually complex clinical documents using OCR, multimodal models, and classical ML.
• Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate AI/ML capabilities into the core platform.
• Design explainable AI solutions to provide transparency for healthcare professionals.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience building and deploying production applications in backend or data engineering.
• Proven experience developing LLM-based systems for ingesting unstructured records in industry-specific use cases.
• Expertise in document AI, OCR, and extracting data from visual/scanned content (charts, tables).
• Deep understanding of LLM limitations and best practices for ensuring consistent, accurate outputs.
• Must be based in San Francisco for a hybrid work arrangement (2-3 days/week in office).

Nice to have

• Experience working with medical records for clinical evaluations or claims authorization.
• Significant experience with healthcare data and HIPAA best practices.
• Knowledge of modern MLOps and ML infrastructure.
• Experience as a generalist backend engineer with Python and data science libraries.
