TL;DR
Database Engineer (PostgreSQL/C): Driving the evolution of OrioleDB, a next-generation storage engine for PostgreSQL, with an accent on database internals and open-source community collaboration. Focus on designing low-level storage features, enhancing system stability through fault injection, and upstreaming patches to the PostgreSQL core.
Location: Remote (Global). Strong working overlap with Americas time zones is required for production support and on-call responsibilities.

What you will do
- Design and implement new OrioleDB features, such as native index access methods (GiST, GIN, HNSW for pgvector) and disaster recovery tooling.
- Strengthen system reliability through deeper test coverage, fault injection, crash/recovery testing, and CI infrastructure improvements.
- Contribute patches directly to the PostgreSQL core via the pgsql-hackers mailing list and public code reviews.
- Integrate OrioleDB features cleanly with PostgreSQL's planner, executor, and surrounding subsystems.
- Debug and resolve complex issues in low-level C code across storage, replication, indexing, and query execution paths.
- Participate in on-call rotations to troubleshoot and maintain production deployments of OrioleDB.
Requirements
- Existing PostgreSQL core contributor or equivalent experience in database internals.
- Expert C programmer with 8+ years of production experience in low-level systems programming.
- Deep familiarity with PostgreSQL’s codebase, build system, and extension APIs.
- Proven experience designing or implementing database storage engines, index structures, or query execution components.
- Proficiency in debugging and profiling complex C code within a database context.
- Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate within community-driven open-source projects.
