TL;DR

Client Engineer (Unity Gamedev): Contribute to core tech and platform engineering for Star Trek Fleet Command, a Unity-based 4X Strategy MMO, with an accent on shared client systems such as asset loading, UI systems, tooling, memory tracking, patching, and performance monitoring. Focus on identifying and resolving performance, stability, and scalability issues, supporting Unity upgrades and platform integrations across Android, iOS, and PC.

Location: Dublin, Ireland (onsite)

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain shared client systems including asset loading, UI systems, tooling, memory tracking, patching, and performance monitoring.
  • Identify and resolve performance, stability, and scalability issues across the client.
  • Collaborate with Backend, DevOps, QA, and gameplay teams to improve workflows, integrations, and development processes.
  • Follow coding standards, architectural patterns, and engineering best practices; participate in code reviews and technical discussions.
  • Support Unity upgrades and platform integrations for Android, iOS, and PC.
  • Improve modularity, reliability, and maintainability of the codebase.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional experience with Unity and C# development
  • Experience with game systems, shared frameworks, tools, or platform-related features
  • Solid debugging and problem-solving skills, including performance and memory issues
  • Understanding of Unity systems: AssetBundles, scene management, rendering, lifecycle management
  • Experience developing for mobile platforms (iOS/Android) and profiling tools (Unity Profiler, Android Profiler, Xcode Instruments)
  • Familiarity with version control (Git) and CI/CD workflows (Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
  • BSc in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent

Nice to have

  • Experience with Unity version upgrades or large-scale client migrations
  • Performance optimisation and memory management techniques
  • Familiarity with networking: WebSockets, Protobuf, gRPC
  • Native plugins or platform-specific integrations
  • Knowledge of LiveOps, telemetry, experimentation frameworks
  • Backend-client coordination and data synchronisation
  • Mobile challenges: device fragmentation, app store requirements, patching
