TL;DR

Software Development Manager (TypeScript/SaaS): Managing and developing a section of the engineering department building customer-facing B2B sales and marketing products with an accent on performance management and technical quality. Focus on driving engineering efficiencies, mentoring developers, and overseeing the transition to a physical hub in Cape Town.

Location: Must be based in Cape Town (initially remote, but onsite attendance at least once per week is required from Q3 2027).

What you will do

  • Lead and manage the performance and personal development of a section of the engineering department.
  • Critique code and drive technical quality, efficiency, and speed of delivery using a modern tech stack.
  • Conduct regular 1:1s and performance reviews to support career progression and skill development.
  • Support recruitment and retention initiatives to attract and keep high-performing talent.
  • Foster a high-trust, collaborative engineering culture based on continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Significant experience in a SaaS environment focusing on clean code, SOLID principles, and design patterns.
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript and familiarity with NestJS/NodeJS, Vue, Redis, and SQL Server.
  • Proven experience as a hands-on software engineer with deep knowledge of mature DevOps practices.
  • Experience leading engineering teams building complex and distributed systems.
  • Degree in Computer Science or a related field from a recognized university.
  • Must be located in or able to work from Cape Town for future onsite requirements.
