Director, Digital Health and Informatics (Medtech): Leading the Global Digital Health practice to design and scale AI-enabled health systems for last-mile communities in Africa with an accent on government partnership and sustainable system ownership. Focus on stewarding the AI agenda, overseeing the software product cycle for country-facing tools, and providing strategic technical guidance to Ministries of Health.

Location: Must be based in Nairobi; open to Kenyan nationals or citizens of East African Community (EAC) member states. Relocation expenses will not be covered.

Salary: $90,966 - $118,531 USD per annum

What you will do

• Set the strategic vision for the Global Digital Health practice and lead the AI innovation portfolio.
• Collaborate with Ministries of Health in Africa to design, deploy, and scale nationwide digital health systems.
• Oversee the full software product cycle for country-facing tools, including technical requirements, engineering contracts, and QA.
• Develop and steward partnerships with hardware providers, software development firms, and academic institutions.
• Provide technical capacity building and expert guidance on AI/ML, data security, and system integration to internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead business development efforts, including identifying funding opportunities and contributing technical writing for proposals.

Requirements

• Extensive experience in digital health or international development managing applied technology projects in LMICs.
• Proven track record of deploying national digital health systems (e.g., DHIS2, CommCare, ODK).
• Experience engaging government policymakers on digital health strategy, deployment, and governance.
• Strong data literacy, with the ability to engage with data engineers and interpret complex outputs.
• Experience applying or overseeing AI and machine learning tools in a digital health or development context.
• Must be based in Nairobi and be a Kenyan national or EAC member state citizen.

Nice to have

• Experience managing cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP) and relevant cloud certifications.
• Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards such as FHIR and HL7.
• Experience with voice-first or low-bandwidth AI applications, particularly LLM-based tools for low-connectivity environments.
• Published work in digital health within peer-reviewed journals or technical publications.
