What you will do

• Own the end-to-end architecture, operations, lifecycle, and security posture of VMaaS and CaaS platforms.
• Lead major modernization initiatives, including VMware EOL and Hyper-V migrations and Kubernetes version upgrades.
• Drive the adoption of AI and automation tools to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual run costs.
• Ensure 24x7 availability, operational stability, and prompt vulnerability remediation.
• Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing technical team of 10+ engineers.
• Act as the primary interface for application teams, Labs stakeholders, and strategic vendors.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
• 5+ years of people management experience leading infrastructure or platform engineering teams of 10+ engineers.
• 3+ years of hands-on technical experience with virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere, Hyper-V) AND container orchestration (Kubernetes, OpenShift, or Docker Swarm).
• Proven experience operating mission-critical platforms at enterprise scale.
• Strong familiarity with AI-assisted IT operations (AIOps) concepts and tools.
• Must be based in Costa Rica; this position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in a technical field.
• Cloud certifications such as AWS, Azure, GCP, CKA, or CKAD.
• Experience with infrastructure automation tools like Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
• Experience with AIOps platforms such as Datadog AI, Splunk ITSI, or Dynatrace Davis.
• Experience managing platforms supporting 1000+ VMs or 100+ Kubernetes clusters.
