Research Engineer, Machine Learning (RL Velocity, AI)

Research Engineer, Machine Learning (RL Velocity): Build and improve the RL training infrastructure that enables fast iteration on AI models with an accent on efficiency, reliability, and scalability across the research stack. Focus on identifying and removing bottlenecks, partnering with researchers, and owning end-to-end performance of distributed training runs.

Location: Remote-Friendly (Travel-Required), San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY. Expect to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time.

Salary: $500,000 - $850,000 USD

What you will do

• Build and improve RL training infrastructure used daily by researchers
• Identify and remove bottlenecks across the RL stack through debugging, profiling, and rearchitecting
• Partner with researchers and engineering teams to ship tooling that accelerates model development
• Own reliability and performance of research runs end-to-end
• Contribute to design decisions shaping large-scale RL at hirify.global

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in relevant field
• Strong software engineering fundamentals with track record of performant, reliable systems
• Experience with ML infrastructure, distributed systems, or research tooling
• Comfort operating across stack from low-level performance to RL algorithms
• Bias toward quick shipping and iteration with high agency

Nice to have

• Experience with large-scale distributed training (RL, pre-training, post-training)
• Familiarity with JAX, PyTorch, or similar ML frameworks
• Track record operating at edge of research and infra in fast-moving environment
