TL;DR
Technical Artist (Game Development): Establishing and maintaining art pipelines, toolsets, materials, and shaders for AAA game development with an accent on real-time rendering, asset performance, and technical problem-solving. Focus on profiling artwork against memory and frame-rate constraints, supporting multidisciplinary art teams, and mentoring Technical Artists in a hybrid UK studio environment.
Location: Hybrid at either the Daresbury or Newcastle studio in the UK, with three days per week in the studio: Wednesday, Thursday, and one additional day.

What you will do
- Establish and maintain project art pipelines throughout the development lifecycle.
- Support art and animation teams by resolving technical issues and improving asset workflows.
- Create and integrate in-house tools, materials, and shaders.
- Profile artwork to meet memory and frame-rate requirements while maintaining visual fidelity.
- Maintain technical standards for naming conventions, texture layering, and asset structure.
- Create technical documentation and tutorials, advise on production risks, and mentor other Technical Artists.
Requirements
- Understanding of real-time game art, modern rendering, shading, and lighting techniques.
- Excellent working knowledge of Maya and/or 3DS Max and in-depth knowledge of Python.
- Understanding of the technical limitations of current console hardware.
- Strong communication, organisation, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
- Ability to solve technical and creative problems methodically and deliver quality work within fixed time constraints.
- Knowledge of current game development practices and a commitment to learning new game art technologies.
Nice to have
- Experience with the Maya API, C++, C#, or other scripting languages.
- Experience with Photoshop, Substance, Houdini, Unreal Engine, or Unity.
- Knowledge of materials, shaders, and physically based rendering workflows.
- At least two years of game development experience and at least one published title.
