Head of Payload Architecture (Satellite Comms): Leading the development and execution of next-generation small GEO communication payloads with an accent on end-to-end payload architecture including RF, digital, and control interfaces. Focus on ensuring payload performance closure, managing the full life cycle from mission definition to in-orbit operations, and scaling the payload engineering team.

Location: Helsinki, Finland. Relocation to Helsinki is supported.

What you will do

• Drive the Communication Payload Team through the full lifecycle from early mission definition to launch and in-orbit operations.
• Define and maintain robust payload architectures supporting software-defined and flexible missions.
• Own payload performance closure across all operational modes, including link budgets and communications standards (DVB-S2X, 3GPP).
• Lead, mentor, and recruit a high-performing payload engineering team across various locations.
• Manage system-level Payload trade-offs across power, avionics, propulsion, structure, and thermal.
• Ensure payload requirements are correctly integrated into system and subsystem specifications.

Requirements

• 15+ years of experience in satellite payload or communications system engineering roles.
• 5+ years of experience managing engineering teams with a proven track record of delivering flight hardware.
• Direct responsibility for at least two mid-to-large size GEO Comms Payloads that reached orbit.
• Hands-on experience with RF/digital payloads and laboratory measurement equipment.
• Proven record of HTS Comms Payload implementation.
• Experience with payload AIT, calibration, and system-level RF testing.
