Location: Hybrid in Sydney, Australia

What you will do

  • Write efficient, maintainable code using Node.js and TypeScript, leveraging LLMs for speed and quality.
  • Set the technical direction for the payments domain and drive solution design discussions.
  • Develop and deploy applications across an event-driven AWS stack including Lambda, DynamoDB, and EventBridge.
  • Collaborate with other Staff engineers and tech leads to maintain engineering standards and conduct code reviews.
  • Identify and resolve technical debt and support Level 3 production issues.
  • Mentor junior engineers to improve the overall technical capability of the team.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of commercial software development experience with recent, hands-on coding as a core part of the role.
  • Extensive experience with TypeScript, Node.js, and React.js in production environments.
  • Deep knowledge of AWS serverless and event-driven services (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, SQS, SNS, EventBridge).
  • Experience deploying infrastructure using AWS CDK.
  • Ability to write technical design documentation such as RFCs and Architecture Decision Records.
  • Strong operational maturity with a focus on observability and failure modes.

Nice to have

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and configuration management.
  • Exposure to container technologies such as Docker.
  • Experience working with Design Language Systems.
