TL;DR

Storage Migration Specialist (LTO Tape): Lead the planning, execution, and verification of complex Ultrium LTO tape data migrations in multi-petabyte production environments with an accent on zero-to-minimal downtime and full data integrity. Focus on designing end-to-end strategies, performing validation checks, and troubleshooting LTO drives, libraries, and integrations.

What you will do

  • Design and execute end-to-end migration strategies for Ultrium LTO tape libraries, drives, and media across generations.
  • Manage multi-petabyte data migrations including media inventory, library reconfiguration, tape copy/refresh, and host migrations.
  • Develop migration plans, risk assessments, rollback procedures, and cutover schedules aligned with production SLAs.
  • Perform pre- and post-migration validation with data integrity checks, performance testing, and compliance reporting.
  • Collaborate with client teams and vendors like IBM, HPE, Quantum, and Spectra Logic.
  • Troubleshoot issues in LTO drives, media, robotics, SAN fabric, and backup software.
  • Document activities, lessons learned, and configurations for client handover.

Requirements

  • 7+ years in enterprise storage, 4+ years focused on Ultrium LTO tape migrations in large-scale production
  • Success leading full-scale LTO tape library migrations
  • Deep knowledge of Ultrium LTO technology: drive compatibility, media management, encryption, WORM, partitioning
  • Proficiency with tape libraries: IBM TS4500/TS3500, HPE MSL, Quantum Scalar, Spectra Black Pearl
  • Experience with backup solutions: IBM Spectrum Protect, Veritas NetBackup, Commvault, Veeam
  • Strong SAN/NAS, zoning, multipathing, host connectivity (AIX, Linux, Windows)
  • Project-management skills for tight timelines and change-control

Nice to have

  • Certifications: IBM Storage, SNIA, vendor-specific LTO
  • Tape-to-disk/cloud or LTO upgrades in regulated industries (finance, healthcare, government)
  • Automation scripting: Python, PowerShell, Ansible
