Data Engineer (Cat Digital Data & AI)

TL;DR

Data Engineer (Cat Digital Data & AI): Developing Python data pipelines that build business data objects used to support applications with an accent on interpreting design requirements, building CI/CD pipelines, and implementing source-to-target mapping. Focus on resolving complex application problems, conducting unit and integration testing, and building engineering automations to improve development velocity.

Location: Option to be based out of Chicago, IL; Peoria, IL or Irving, TX offices (United States). Visa sponsorship not available.

What you will do

• Perform complex programming, project management, and development assignments without close supervision.
• Work directly on complex application and technical problem identification and resolution.
• Interpret design requirements for engineering implementation and build/deploy CI/CD pipelines.
• Implement source-to-target mapping as pipeline code and handle unit/integration testing.
• Maintain high software quality standards and build automations to improve development velocity and efficiency.
• Identify areas for team growth and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Knowledge of software development tools, life cycle, product design/architecture, technical aspects, and testing.
• Extensive software development experience with OOP principles (typically 5+ years).
• Experience designing/developing software applications in Python (typically 4+ years).
• Experience with Git on medium to large teams and deploying via CI/CD tools like GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps.
• Exceptional communication skills for cross-functional teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS components (Lambda, Kinesis, Event Bridge, CloudWatch, CloudFormation, Dynamo, Fargate, S3, SageMaker, IAM, RDS).
• Experience working with Snowflake.
• Hands-on experience with GenAI developer tools like GitHub Copilot or Claude Code.
• Applied knowledge of GenAI tools in real use cases and understanding of LangChain/LangGraph frameworks.
• Ability to learn and adapt in rapidly evolving GenAI space.
