TL;DR

Operational Environment and Effects Senior and Mid-Level Planner (Defence): Design, develop, and deliver advanced collective training activities for the Combat Training Centre with an accent on operational, environmental, informational, and sustainment effects. Focus on building realistic exercise scenarios, integrating functional expertise, and ensuring alignment with training objectives across major activities.

Location: Townsville based personnel preferred; high performing remote candidates considered with up to 15 domestic trips annually to Defence locations

What you will do

  • Design and develop realistic exercise scenarios and structured planning materials.
  • Participate in planning conferences, workshops, and working groups providing subject matter expertise.
  • Support synchronisation, coordination, and execution of training activities.
  • Contribute to reviews, observations, reporting, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with planners, coaching staff, and Defence stakeholders.
  • For mid-level: Understudy senior planners and integrate environmental/organisational factors into core events.

Requirements

  • NV1 (SECRET) security clearance minimum (NV2 preferred for some roles)
  • Senior roles: O6/O5 level military planning experience at formation or higher headquarters.
  • Mid-level roles: O4 level experience; at least two from Combat Arms/Combat Support backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated experience in land-based collective training design and exercise management.
  • Strong communication skills for engaging senior stakeholders; ability to travel domestically.
  • Understanding of joint/multi-agency planning environments.

Nice to have

  • Experience in brigade, joint task force, or division-level headquarters.
  • Joint or multi-agency planning experience.
