Computer Vision Data Scientist

Location: Hybrid in Welwyn Garden City, United Kingdom; 36 working hours per week

What you will do

• Develop and deploy machine learning, computer vision, and generative AI solutions for customer and business operations.
• Design robust models, experiment with new approaches, build prototypes, and evaluate statistical and business performance.
• Scale models into production in collaboration with Machine Learning Engineers and Software Engineers.
• Translate business problems into data science solutions and communicate complex findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Contribute to knowledge sharing, represent Tesco in the external data science community, and evaluate emerging GenAI and computer vision techniques.

Requirements

• Strong background in computer vision solutions, with experience modifying and designing advanced algorithms.
• Experience applying algorithms to large real-world datasets.
• Statistics and machine learning skills, plus a scientific mindset, critical thinking, and ability to ask the right questions.
• Ability to communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences and collaborate across teams.
• Strong coding practices, including version control and testing.
• A higher degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or another quantitative discipline is preferred; equivalent commercial experience is valued.

Nice to have

• Experience with TensorFlow and/or PyTorch.
• Experience with object detection models such as Faster-RCNN, YOLO, EfficientDet, or Nvidia models.
• Experience with OpenCV, scikit-image, SciPy, Pandas, Docker, and Git.
• Working knowledge of image processing and video technology.
