Software Engineer

TL;DR

Software Engineer (Data Systems): Enabling systematic mineral exploration and improving success rates by making data broadly accessible to humans and machines with an accent on building data pipelines and tooling. Focus on end-to-end ownership of projects and collaboration with data scientists and geologists.

Salary: $175,000 - $240,000

KoBold builds AI models for mineral exploration and deploys those models to guide decisions on KoBold-owned-and-operated exploration programs.

What you will do

• Engage with exploration geologists and data scientists to tailor technology development to project needs.
• Build data pipelines and tooling for deriving advanced insights from exploration data, often leading small teams.
• Develop expertise in KoBold’s Data Systems and understand their impact on exploration.
• Take end-to-end ownership of projects from design to implementation and testing.
• Respond to design and code feedback, and provide feedback to teammates.
• Operationally manage the team’s services and assist scientific colleagues with tooling.

Requirements

• 4+ years of software engineering experience, ideally building production cloud data systems.
• Proficiency with Python.
• Ability to write production-quality code that is correct, readable, well-tested, scalable, and extensible.
• Skilled in large-scale system design.
• A track record of taking ownership and delivering projects with demonstrated impact.
• Intellectual curiosity and eagerness to learn about mineral exploration and geology.
• Ability to explain technical problems to and collaborate with domain experts.
• Excitement about joining a fast-growing early-stage company and comfort with a dynamic work environment.
• Keen to figure out what technical product to build to best achieve the company's business objectives.

Nice to have

• Experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React.
• Experience with geospatial data and building map-based experiences.
• Familiarity with containerization and container orchestration platforms, such as Docker, AWS ECS, Kubernetes, etc.
• Formal education or job exposure to natural sciences.
