Location: Hybrid, 40% (or two days) in office a week in Manchester

Salary: £126,523 - £148,850

• Set the engineering and technology direction for Group Innovation.
• Translate emerging technologies into practical solutions.
• Own end‑to‑end solution architecture across innovation initiatives.
• Lead venture teams to rapidly prototype solutions.
• Define and promote engineering standards and architectural principles.
• Act as a senior engineering voice for Group Innovation.

Requirements

• Visionary engineering leader with strong technical judgement.
• Deep technologist with a passion for emerging technologies.
• Hands‑on experience applying AI‑enabled capabilities in real‑world systems.
• Comfort operating in ambiguity.
• Organisational influencing skills.
• Pragmatic innovator with experience working in startup, scale‑up, or innovation‑led environments.

Nice to have

• Senior experience in engineering, architecture, or technology leadership roles.
• Career background as a software engineer and/or technical architect, with progression into leadership.
• Experience operating within large‑scale or regulated organisations.
• A track record of simplifying complex technology landscapes or reducing technical debt.
