TL;DR

Entry Level VFX Artist (Paint & Roto): Joining the Jedi Academy Program to learn and apply 2D animation techniques for rotoscoping and hand painting on live-action plates, with an accent on matte creation, plate clean-up, and dynamic recreation. Focus on developing a strong eye for photo-realism, color, lighting, and integrating new methodologies into VFX workflows.

Location: Hybrid in Sydney, Australia. You must be an Australian Citizen or hold Australian Permanent Resident status and reside in NSW.

What you will do

  • Learn an understanding of 2D animation for both rotoscoping and organic hand painting.
  • Break down and rebuild various segments within a live action plate.
  • Perform general live action plate preparation, wire and marker removal, and clean plate projections.
  • Develop a strong eye for colour, lighting, perspective, grain structure, and photo-realism.
  • Learn and utilize ILM's proprietary tools and pipeline.

Requirements

  • Must be an Australian Citizen or hold Australian Permanent Resident status.
  • Must reside in NSW.
  • Fine arts graduates or artists from any background with a genuine passion for a career in Paint & Roto.
  • Demonstrated interest and foundational knowledge of filmmaking fundamentals, such as composition and storytelling.
  • Adaptable mindset regarding new methodologies and an eagerness to integrate emerging technologies.
  • Great collaboration skills and a curious learning approach.
  • Possess a Bachelor's Degree in VFX, visual arts, digital media or animation, or a creative portfolio demonstrating work and a general understanding of VFX.
