Data Scientist – Business Lending (Decision Science)

TL;DR

Data Scientist (Decision Science): Designing, validating, embedding, and maintaining robust models for business loan applications with an accent on decision science, risk modelling, and customer acceptance. Focus on building and optimizing SME credit acceptance models using Python, implementing model monitoring, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate decisioning models into loan origination processes.

Location: Hybrid in Utrecht, Netherlands. Must be located in the Netherlands; relocation is not possible for this role.

Salary: Gross monthly salary between EUR 4,931 and EUR 7,043 (for a 36-hour work week).

What you will do

• Design, build, and validate statistical and machine learning models for business processes and credit decisioning.
• Safeguard model quality through monitoring, documentation, and explainability.
• Gather and analyze data from multiple source systems, translating insights into model enhancements and innovations.
• Contribute to innovations such as alternative data use, new model architectures, and automation of decisioning processes.
• Collaborate closely with Risk, business stakeholders, IT, and policy teams to embed models effectively.
• Act as a sparring partner for colleagues across Data Science, Credit Risk, and the business lending chain.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a Data Scientist or Decision Scientist.
• Proven experience with decisioning, credit risk, scoring, or acceptance models, preferably in business lending.
• Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and relevant frameworks (e.g., scikitlearn, XGBoost, MLflow).
• Deep knowledge of statistics, machine learning, and model validation.
• Ability to explain complex analyses to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
• You must be located in the Netherlands.
• A motivation letter is required.

• Experience working in a regulatory environment (e.g., ECB/ESRB expectations, model risk management).
