Senior Staff SDE I (PostgreSQL)

TL;DR

Senior Staff SDE I (PostgreSQL): Designing, implementing, and maintaining the hirify.global Postgres Distributed (PGD) product, a multi-master PostgreSQL solution, with an accent on high availability, geographic distribution, and active-active replication. Focus on architecture design, development, testing, and documentation of new and existing capabilities for enterprise workloads.

Location: 100% remote for candidates based in North America (United States)

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, and document new PGD capabilities.
• Maintain and improve the performance and usability of existing PGD features.
• Analyze business requirements and translate them into executable tasks.
• Provide world-class production support to hirify.global’s PGD customers.
• Participate in code reviews and collaborate with a globally distributed team.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in a software engineering position.
• Strong proficiency in C programming.
• Experience with PostgreSQL internals (storage engine, WAL, replication, catalog system, or extension development).
• Understanding of distributed systems concepts: replication topologies, consensus, conflict resolution, eventual consistency, and failure modes.
• Experience working on multi-version/multi-branch codebases with active backporting workflows.
• Comfort working with Git on a large, long-lived codebase with complex branching.
• Strong debugging and performance analysis skills.

Nice to have

• Prior contributions to PostgreSQL or other open-source database projects.
• Experience with logical replication, logical decoding, or custom replication solutions.
• Knowledge of distributed consensus algorithms (Raft).
• Familiarity with the PostgreSQL extension API and hook system.
• Experience with high availability architectures and failover mechanisms.
• Experience with Python and Rust.
• Experience with major Cloud Providers (AWS, Azure, GCP), Ansible, Docker, and Kubernetes.
